Summer skin tips

Skincare products and advice for healthy summer skin

The summer is finally here, so here are a few tips on how to look after your skin during the summer season.

Exfoliate and moisturize your skin regularly. Exfoliation should be done at least once a week and will get rid of dead skin cells, leaving you with smoother skin.

Moisturizer should be used every day. Most skincare ranges have separate products for face and body, this is because the skin on our bodies is generally tougher and the facial skin more delicate.
Try to choose chemical-free products; I like the Circaroma Ylang Ylang & Brown Sugar Body Scrub £20 & the Lemon & Geranium Body Butter £25 to moisturize. For the face Circaroma Geranium & Vanilla Face Polish £15 and the Frankincense & Orange Nourishing Cream £24.

If sunbathing, try to stay out of the midday sun. The sun is at it's hottest between 12 and 3 in the afternoon and this is when you are most likely to burn. Remember that although a suntan can make us feel and look healthier, it is actually the skin's way of protecting itself from burning. Always use a good sunscreen and re-apply regularly. I like the Lavera range of sunscreens as they are more natural and very effective.

Keep the skin hydrated when on holiday - drink plenty of water and use a good aftersun product to minimise peeling. If you have overdone it and your skin is burnt, Aloe Vera gel is fantastic for soothing and calming.
